Engaging, Guided, Community Conversations

Educators and Early Learning Childcare programs can join this online Professional Learning Community (PLC) to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another as they dialogue and reflect on Flight Framework explorations in practice.

Participants may join one PLC and commit to participating with that learning community for all monthly sessions guided by experienced facilitators.

Practice-Based Learning Community Topics

Topics for ARCQE’s Practice-Based Learning Communities change annually. Explore our current topic offerings below:

PLC 1 – Explore Planning from Themes to Emergent Curriculum

Are you ready to shift from set themes to a flexible, evolving approach? This PLC is for you! We’ll use Flight’s Co-Inquiry Model to guide our planning. In our discussions, we’ll consider insights from top experts in our field, and, most importantly, you’ll get to see and share real examples of what emergent curriculum looks like in action.

PLC 2 – Risky and Dizzy Play in Early Childhood Education Programs

Would you like to connect with other educators in Alberta to discuss what risky/dizzy play looks like in practice? This PLC will use ideas from Flight to guide our conversation. We’ll explore what risky/dizzy play includes, what research says about it and share examples and practices for creating responsive environments for this type of play.

PLC 3 – Trusting Relationships and Challenging Conversations

Have you ever thought about how having tough conversations can help early childhood professionals build meaningful dialogue with colleagues, administrators, families, and others? How do the educator’s role, mutual relationships, and reflective practice foster trust? We’ll use the values, guiding principles, and core ideas from Flight to guide our learning on handling challenging conversations.

PLC 4 – Digging Deeper into Responsive Environments Empowering Educators to Create Dynamic Learning Spaces

Join to explore Responsive Environments! In our learning community, we’ll look at how the principles of a Responsive Environment can turn your early learning and childcare spaces into dynamic, inclusive places where children and educators thrive. Together, we’ll dive into connecting with nature, building spaces where everyone feels they belong, and embracing the role of educators as active participants. Through hands-on activities and discussions, you’ll get practical strategies to create environments that inspire curiosity, involvement, and community.

PLC 5 – Father Sky and Mother Earth Embracing Diversity and Social Responsibility

This PLC will encourage participants to reflect on diversity and social responsibility. They will explore ways to intentionally include Indigenous knowledge in early childhood settings, helping children understand cultural differences and learn to care for the natural world.

PLC 6 – Critical Friends and Change Makers Creating a Culture of Learning

Join us as we explore what it means to be a supportive partner and a positive force for change! This PLC will help you understand how to make meaningful improvements in your early learning program. We’ll discuss the role a strong learning culture plays in creating an energized environment. Using ideas from Flight and focusing on the educator’s role, you’ll reflect, share ideas, and plan ways to grow your skills alongside other Early Childhood Educators.

PLC 7 – Francophone Educators and Administrators

Do you feel more comfortable engaging in conversation and reflection in French? This PLC will allow French-speaking educators and administrators to reflect on their Flight practices in their first language with a group of peers.
